Special Events

In addition to the intensive academic workshops and sessions offered at the ACA Annual Meeting, there is a variety of things to do and special events.

Opening Reception & Exhibit Show

Join us, after a day of workshops, to welcome attendees.  The Opening Reception provides an excellent opportunity to network, meet old friends and colleagues, as well as meet new people as the program begins.  Afterwards join us in opening our exhibit hall and meet our exhibitors.

First Time Attendees & Student Orientation

It is important to the ACA that first time attendees and students have a great experience at the annual meeting.  Join us for this session where meeting veterans will share the ins and outs of an ACA Annual Meeting.

Meet the Editor-in-Chief of IUCr Journals

Bring your coffee over to Booth 309 during the breaks on Sunday afternoon, Monday morning and Tuesday morning to meet Andrew Allen, who will be happy to answer your questions about publishing in IUCr Journals (journals.iucr.org).

Three Minute Thesis

In 2018 the Young Scientific Interest Group held a Three Minute Thesis contest.  The session was amazing with the winner, Andreea Gheorghita, giving her winning Three Minute Thesis at the closing banquet.  This year the YSIG is bringing this popular contest to Kentucky.  While the audience is composed of crystallographers and scientists, they may or may not have a specific background in a presented topic.  The goal of the contestants is to engage the audience with their research in just 180 seconds.  This session is fully populated by abstracts for posters at the meeting. Authors will present a 3-minute thesis talk, but will additionally present their poster during the regular poster schedule.

YSIG Mixer

With support from Bruker, the YSIG is excited to host a Young Scientists Mixer.  Join  fellow conference attendees and exhibitors on Monday, July 22nd to meet and mingle. This event is an opportunity to connect with other scientists in a fun relaxed atmosphere. This event is held offsite and gives meeting goers the opportunity to explore Northern Kentucky, which offers a blend of cosmopolitan sophistication and southern hospitality.  The mixer is FREE for registered students and postdocs but you must indicate on the registration form that you will attend. Tickets are required.

Closing Banquet

While traditionally held onsite, in 2019 the ACA closing banquet will be held offsite on Wednesday, July 24, 2018, in the evening.  Join us, just a short walk from the hotels, on the Belle of Cincinnati for a final banquet dinner reception (buffet), cash bar, and networking with fellow attendees.  The banquet is included in registration but you must indicate that you will attend.
